Mizzou Gymnastics vs SUU

Mizzou gymnastics tumbles to victory
by: MizzMatt

Columbia, MO- Southern Utah University traveled from Cedar City, UT to Columbia, MO to take on the Missouri Tigers in gymnastics tonight.  Yes, I was there.  (I support ALL Mizzou Athletics.)  The Tigers got the short end of the stick on some judging, as there as at one point, a .3 (3/10) of a point difference on the balance beam apparatus.  The Tigers prevailed over the Thunderbirds, 194.925 - 193.775.  Last home meet for the Tigers is March 4th against Cenetary and Temple.

There's No Place Like Home

Bowers, Ratliffe have breakout game
by MizzMatt
Kim English finished with 16 points.
Columbia, MO- The Missouri Tigers basketball team looked to remain undefeated in Mizzou Arena this season as they hosted the Baylor Bears on ESPN2.  How would they do after notching their conference road win against Iowa State?

Well, for starters, Laurence Bowers notched a double-double.  Ricardo Ratliffe had 12 rebounds...in the first half alone.  Despite the game having a slow start (four points combined in the first four minutes), the Tigers jumped out to a 13-pt lead at halftime, 33-20.  Baylor hit a half court three pointer at the buzzer to avoid having their lowest points in the first half all season (18 against K-State, 1/24).

The Tigers relied on their big guys down low to carry them through the game, as the perimeter game struggled throughout.  The scoring was relatively low, as the turnovers played a part in the story of the game.  Baylor committed 21 turnovers to Missouri's 15.  Mizzou fell just short of their season average of 83.5 (5th in nation), but still come away with a 77-59 victory to go 17-0 at Mizzou Arena this season.

Laurence Bowers led all scorers with 20 points, Kim English tallied 16, Marcus Denmon added 13 and Ricardo Ratliffe netted 11 to lead the Tigers' scoring.  The biggest story of the game is Baylor's Lacedarius Dunn, who has scored at least 20 points against every team in the Big 12 except Missouri.  Dunn finished the game with 12 points.

Missouri improves to 22-6, 8-5 and will go on the road to Manhattan, KS to take on the K-State Wildcats.  Baylor falls to 17-10, 6-7 before returning home to face #17 Texas Tech.

The Tigers are now 79-10 at Mizzou Arena under Mike Anderson, with one home game remaining (Kansas, March 5th).

ESPN goes Gabbert

SportsCenter does a highlight on the NFL-bound QB

ESPN- the "Worldwide Leader in Sports" did a focus on Mizzou quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who has decided to forgo his senior year for the NFL draft.  Click the link to see how he is how he is preparing for the combine:
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6141222
Some NFL mock-drafts have Gabbert going as high as 5th overall, which would make him the second-highest draft pick to come out of Mizzou (Justin Smith- 4th, 2000).

Tigers Overcome Road Woes

Mizzou gets first conference road win
Ames, IA- Another road game for the Missouri Tigers' mens team.  Another must-win situation.  Yet another collective holding of breath by the Mizzou faithful, as the Tigers enter the game winless away from Columbia in Big 12 Conference play.  Could the Tigers finally gain what has eluded them for the previous five road contests?  They dropped a close one at Tech, losing by two.  They were embarrassed at Colorado and donated 100+ points to Kansas.  Could this game be any different?  It IS Iowa State, after all.  The worst team in the Big 12 this year at 1-10.  Surly we can beat the cellar team....right?

Missouri's Marcus Denmon
We almost found a way to lose.  Our Tiger team that is so dominant at home (average home win of 20+ points) is a completely different team on the road...but, like I always say, "a win is a win, is a win."  Despite jumping out to an early 10-pt lead, the Cyclones kept it respectable.  Mizzou only led by two at the half, 35-33.  The Cyclones even managed to tie it down the stretch at 58.  In the end, however, it was Mizzou finally getting the monkey off their back with a 76-70 victory to improve to 21-6, 7-5.  The Cyclones fall to 14-12, 1-11.

The Tigers' Marcus Denmon netted 25 points to lead all scorers, and the Tigers are now 8-1 when Denmon scores 20+ points.  Missouri managed to avoid foul trouble, as Iowa State only attempted nine free throws.  Laurence Bowers tipped in 16 of his own, and Ricardo Ratliffe added 10.  Kim English and Justin Safford each had 8, respectively.  Michael Dixon was the surprise of the night, as he went 0/7 and 6 points.  Phil Pressey added the remainder of the points, going 1-3 for 3 points.  Steve Moore, Matt Pressey and Ricky Krecklow all remained scoreless with 0.

As a team, the Tigers went 27-55 (49.1%) from the field and a respectable 19-24 (79.2%) from the free throw line.  The 3-point shooting wasn't there tonight, going only 3-13 (23.1%) from behind the paint.

Missouri travels back to Columbia and look to remain undefeated on Norm Stewart Court as they take on Baylor (who gave charity to Iowa State's lone conference win) on February 23rd.  After the Baylor game, Mizzou travels to Manhattan, KS to take on the Wildcats, then to Lincoln, NE for one last time to take on the Big Ten-bound Cornhuskers (March 1st), before returning to Mizzou Arena for the season finale against Kansas on March 5th.

MU's Bowers named Chick fil-A Community Champion

Columbia, Mo. - Missouri junior forward Laurence Bowers was named a Winter Chick fil-A Community Champion the Big 12 Conference announced on Wednesday. Bowers, a standout on Missouri's Men's Basketball team, has been a visible presence in the Columbia community since his arrival before the 2008-09 campaign and has helped the Tigers to three consecutive 20-win seasons.
To be named to the Chick fil-A Community of Champions list a student-athlete must maintain a standard grade point average of at least 3.0, be active in at least one community service program and demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship on and off the playing field.
Bowers has been active in numerous community service projects while at Mizzou, from team-orchestrated camps and clinics, to mentoring programs and Read-A-Thons.
On the court Bowers ranks among team and league leaders in several categories. He paces the club in blocked shots (51), and also ranks third in scoring (10.9), second in rebounding (5.7) and second in field goal percentage (.529).
Bowers and the Tigers (20-6, 6-5 Big 12) return to action on Saturday afternoon at Iowa State. The game will be televised on the Big 12 Network at 12:47 p.m.

Mizzou @ Iowa State preview

Tigers look to post big win in Ames
by "Mizzou" Matt
Kim English (24)
The Missouri Tigers go on the road to Ames, Iowa for the first of their final five games.  In the first meeting between the Tigers and Cyclones, Missouri was the victors by a 33-point margin, 87-54.  The Tigers are are 20-6 on the season, 6-5 in conference.  The Cyclones had a good start, but once conference play started, they went on a downhill skid, sitting on a 14-11, 1-9 campaign going into tomorrow's game against Texas A&M.

The Cyclones are led offensively by Diante Garrett, who averages nearly 18 points per game.  All five of their starters average double digits, with three players averaging over 30 minutes per game.

Marcus Denmon is averaging 16.2 ppg
Missouri is led by Marcus Denmon, with over 16 points per game.  Ratliffe (11.8), Bowers (10.9), Dixon (10.4) and English (10.4) round out the top scorers, but the Tiger bench is averaging quite a bit of playing time, with big Steve Moore averaging 12 minutes per game off the seats (lowest of the team aside from Underwood and Sutton).

Both teams are relatively even on free throws, field goals and three pointers.
MIZ- .468 FG%, .376 3PT%, .729 FT%
ISU- .437 FG%, .375 3PT%, .737 FT%
But the Tigers do lead in steals 243-174.  ISU has 374 turnovers compared to Missouri's 316.

Kim English averages 10.4 per game.
Mizzou needs the win to get their first conference road win of the season, before going into the hostile territory of Manhattan, KS and Lincoln, NE.  Kansas State, who the Tigers play on 2/26, defeated the number-1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks 84-68 on Valentines Day.  Remaining home games for the Tigers are against Baylor on 2/23 and Kansas on 3/5 to close the season.

A win is a win is a win

Tigers edge Tech, remain undefeated at home
by "Mizzou Matt"
Columbia, MO- Texas Tech University and the #21 University of Missouri Tigers faced off tonight at Mizzou Arena, as this college basketball season is drawing to a close.  The Red Raiders entered the game unranked, with an overall record of 11-14 overall and vying for a place in the top 12 in conference play at 3-7.  Mizzou entered the game 19-6, 5-5.  Marcus Denmon, who was questionable for tonight's game, dressed out and eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark in the first half.

The Tigers struggled throughout the game, as the crowd seemed to be not as interested as they normally are.  Mizzou averages a 24-point difference in their home wins, but only managed a cushion of eight, winning 92-84 over the Raiders.

Denmon, showing no side effects to the Bowers elbow in the last game, finished with a team-high 20 points, putting his career total to 1,006.  Kim English finished with 16, Michael Dixon fouled out with 13, and Laurence Bowers was the fourth Tiger to finish in double-digits with 10.  Phil "Flip" Pressey dialed in on 3/4 from three-point land for 9 points.

The Tigers' free throw woes continue, going 12-20 (60%) in the game.  Mizzou shot an impressive 47% from behind the three-point paint and 58% from the field.

The Tigers go on the road to face Iowa State on Saturday at 12:45p/CT.  Iowa State is last in the Big 12 at 14-11, 1-9.

Mizzou rebounds against OU...literally

Tigers win big over OU, lose Denmon to injury

Columbia, MO- The University of Missouri Tigers and the Oklahoma Sooners squared off today in Mizzou Arena for a Homecoming-style game for the Tigers.  Coming off a road loss in Lawrence, KS, the Tigers enter the game in "must win" mode.  Mizzou started the game slow, going down by as much as 7, but the second half was all Tigers.  Leading by as much as 23, the 20th-ranked Tigers take care of business against OU, winning 84-61.

The Tigers improve to 19-6 overall, 5-5 in conference play with the win, but it did come at a cost: guard Marcus Denmon left the game early after taking an elbow from teammate Laurence Bowers.  Since the injury, the game lost all energy, but the Tigers pulled away throughout the half.

Turnovers plagued the Sooners, as they finished the game with 18 overall.  Michael Dixon tied with OU's Cameron Clark to lead all scorers off the Tiger bench with 16.  Ricardo Ratliffe added 13 of his own, with Justin Safford winning the "Sixth Man" award with 11 off the bench.  Denmon tallied 9 before leaving with the injury.  Jarrett Sutton, the last man on the roster (who was added after playing coach Mike Anderson in a game of 1-on-1), played the last minute of the game with no shots, no points.

The Tigers out-rebounded the Sooners, 34-30.  Tigers shot 85% from the free throw line, 47% from the field, 36% from beyond the arc.

Mizzou remains undefeated at home, the only Big 12 team to have that honor, at 15-0 on the season.  The Tigers look to extend that to 16 on Tuesday as they take on Texas Tech.

Border Wars - The history behind the Mizzou-Kansas rivalry

The reason for any Mizzou fan to hate Kansas is simple:  it's in our blood.  In the 1850s, when Kansas was slowly becoming a state, the federal government was giving new states the option of coming in as either a free state (Union/North) or a slave state (Confederate/South).  Missouri had entered in as a slave state, and Kansas was wanting to enter in as a free state.  That's when the trouble started.  Years before the Civil War even started, there were outbursts of violence and battles between the two states that became known as "Border Wars".  Members of the Kansas state guard, known as Jayhawkers, invaded Missouri and pillaged the towns along the border.  Members of William Clarke Quantrill's Raiders did the same thing from Missouri to Kansas.  This went back and forth for years, until September 23, 1861, when Kansas senator and colonel in the state guard James H. Lane invaded Missouri, sacking and burning the towns of Butler, Higginsville, Clinton and Osceola in an attempt to push out pro-Southern forces.  Lane and his Jayhawkers killed indiscriminately...men, women and children were all slaughtered in cold blood.

Quantrill, seizing an opportunity for eye for an eye, moved west with his Raiders into Lawrence, hometown of Lane.  On August 21, 1863, Quantrill led a group of 450 guerrillas into Lawrence in an event that became known as the Lawrence Massacre.  Quantrill's Raiders burned the town to the ground in retaliation of Lane's actions in 1861.  The only ones killed in the raid were men and boys that were "old enough to carry a rifle".  Senator Lane escaped in his nightshirt.  Kansas returned the favor by depopulating four Missouri counties, burning building after building and killing anyone that got in their way.

So how does this affect us today?  It's about bad blood.  Missouri and Kansas have never gotten along, as proof has been afforded above.  The real rivalry started on the battlefield, and has since transferred over to the sporting venues.  For the first part of the Missouri-Kansas football rivalry (second oldest in the NCAA behind Minnesota-Wisconsin), games were played in Kansas City, due to neither team feeling safe in the other team's town.  The two have even more of a history as they played in the first ever Homecoming football game on November 25, 1911.  Then Mizzou Chancellor Chester Brewer called for all Mizzou alum to "Come home" for the season finale against the Jayhawks.  The game ended with a 3-3 tie.  In 1960, Missouri entered the KU game undefeated, and looking at a chance to play for a national championship.  Kansas upset then no-1 Missouri with the help of Bert Coan, who was later determined by the NCAA to be ineligible.  That game spilled over onto the basketball court in 1961, when the two teams met in what has become known as the Basketbrawl, you can view it below:

The basketball rivalry is anything but, with Kansas leading now 170-69 in the series, with the last Mizzou win over KU in 2009 when the Tigers eventually went on to win the Big 12 Championship.  However, the football rivalry is closely watched and is highly contested.  KU fans will say the series is now tied, 55-55-9, whereas Mizzou fans, with the argument of Bert Coan on their side, say the rivalry is 56-54-9 Mizzou.  The Border Wars goes beyond those two sports, as it encompasses every sport that the two play each other in.  Whichever team does a better job in athletics for that year, wins the Border Wars trophy that travels between the schools.  The Tigers have controlled the Border Wars, with the exception of men's basketball, for six out of the last eight years.

And besides, when you're born in Missouri, you're given the option:  either root for the Tigers, or be one of "them".

The best refs illegal ticket sales could buy....

Lawrence, KS- The refs were the story of the game.  The refs decided the game.  The refs were ever present throughout the game.  Eight of the first ten fouls in the second half were against Mizzou, as Kansas extended what was a 4-pt halftime lead to a comfortable 17-pt win at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.  Normally, I discourage ripping of officials, but after that game, there isn't a soul on the planet that can say that the second half was called fair.  Mizzou finished the second half with 16 team fouls, compared to Kansas' nine.  Three Mizzou players fouled out- Laurence Bowers, Ricardo Ratliffe and Phil Pressey.

The 20th-ranked Tigers started the game strong, leading throughout most of the first half.  They led by as much as 6 over the second-ranked Jayhawks.  The trailed by four at the half, but after that, the referees stepped up the whistles.  Markiff Morris of Kansas was charged with an intentional foul as he gave a forearm to Mizzou's Justin Safford.  This call was critical, because it was only INTENTIONAL.  The call should have been flagrant and Morris should have been ejected from the game.

Tigers were led offensively by Laurence Bowers, with 19.  Phil Pressey finished with 17, Ratliffe with 12.  Denmon and Matt Pressey finished with 11 each.  Kim English netted 6 off the bench, with Justin Safford and Michael Dixon tallying 5 points each.

The Tigers remain winless on the road, fall to 4-5 in conference, and 18-6 overall with the 86-103 loss.

Kansas leads the all-time series in the basketball Border War, now 170-69, with the season closer in Columbia coming up on March 5th.

Mizzou Recruits, Up Close & Personal

Recruits Bring High Hopes
Columbia, MO- The University of Missouri added 17 new recruits to their football program on National Signing Day (February 2), and with the new players comes new hopes for an outstanding season.  Some recruits plagued by injury are looking forward to getting beyond it and making a name for themselves in the college ranks, and while some will not make the final cut, we wish them all the best of luck.  From blog.wearemizzou.com, here is a brief synopsis of each recruit of the 2011 Mizzou football class:

ATH Brandon Hannah (Chaminade College Prep, St. Louis, MO)
Brandon Hannah has been plagued by injuries over his prep career, including an injury that kept him sidelined over his entire senior season.  Rivals.com ranked him at no. 17 overall of any position in the state of Missouri, he even took his school to a basketball state championship in his sophomore year.

OL Brad McNulty (Allen HS, Allen, TX)
Coming from the pipeline state of Texas, the same state that brought us Chase Daniel and Kenji Jackson, Brad McNulty earned 1st-team class 5A in 2010.  Brad recorded 143 pancakes and 107 knockdown blocks in his high school career, including three district championships.

DE Sheldon Richardson (College of the Sequoias, St. Louis, MO)
Sheldon Richardson
Quite possibly the crown jewel of this year's recruiting class.  Sheldon comes from St. Louis, but has been studying at College of the Sequoias in California.  Ranked by rivals.com as the no. 3 junior college player of any position, Sheldon brings speed and strength to the defensive line.  Richardson was ranked no. 1 in the state of Missouri in any position coming out of high school.

DB Ian Simon (Legacy HS, Mansfield, TX)
Sharing the same hometown as FS Kenji Jackson and TE Eric Waters, Ian is a versatile athlete who recored 94 tackles his sophomore season, 72 his junior year and 68 in his senior at Legacy.  With a kickoff return for touchdown and doubling as a track star (two-time regional qualifier), Ian will bring unmatched speed in the defensive secondary.

LB Brandon Durant (Copperas Cove HS, Copperas Cove, TX)
Brandon is coming from a team that went to the state playoffs for four years straight.  After earning 1st-team all state and team MVP honors as a senior, Brandon brings in a nose for the ball that seems to be unparalleled.  Durant was also a district champion in track his junior year.

LB Kentrell Brothers (Guthrie HS, Guthrie, OK)
Ranked by rivals.com as the no. 36 overall outside linebacker, Kentrell comes to us from the Sooner state of Oklahoma.  As a senior, he recorded 100 tackles and 19 sacks.  He may be used as a supplement to Mizzou's receiving corps as also in his senior year, he netted 53 receptions for 1,322 and 16 touchdowns.  (For comparison, T.J. Moe, last year's receiving leader had 94 recs for 1045 yards and 6 TD.)

DL Gerrand Johnson (Rayville HS, Rayville, LA)
Cajun prospect Gerrand Johnson, ranked by rivals.com as the no. 57 defensive tackle prospect and no. 38 of any position in LA, was a three-time All-District at Rayville.  Johnson recorded 84 tackles, 9 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.

OL Michael Boddie (Gilmer HS, Gilmer, TX)
A three-year starter at Gilmer, Michael Boddie (BAWD-ee) is currently enrolled at the University.  Ranked by ESPN.com as the no. 79 overall offensive tackle prospect, he earned all-state honors in his senior season, despite his season-ending injury.

DB Cortland Browning (Lee HS, Tyler, TX)
A two-timer as 1st-team all district in high school, Cortland brings an excellent knack for getting to the ball and receivers, along with his rivals.com no. 48 cornerback ranking.  His senior year he tallied 56 tackles and 1 interception.  Cortland also ran the 4x400 relay for the track team.

DB Dave Johnson (Spring HS, Spring, TX)
Yet another talented athlete coming out of the state of Texas, Dave Johnson is coming off of a season-ending knee injury his senior season.  Prior to the injury he played 5 games and knocked down the ball carrier 60 times, 3 for loss, and hauled in 2 interceptions.  His junior year he was an Iron Man for the team as he tallied 20 tackles on defense and 15 catches for 400 yards on offense.

LB Clarence Green (Brazoswood HS, Clute, TX)
ESPN.com no. 119 outside linebacker.  A foot injury cut his senior campaign short, but his junior year was met with 131 tackles, including 15 for loss, 7.5 sacks, 4 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.  Clarence also ran the 100-m hurdles, 300-m hurdles and also did the high jump in track & field.

Wesley Leftwich
WR Wesley Leftwich (Columbia-Hickman HS, Columbia, MO)
A homegrown talent from this author's Alma Mater high school, Wesley was an early graduate and is currently enrolled on campus.  Rivals.com no. 16 of any position in the state of Missouri, Wesley hauled in 16 catches for 257 yards and 4 TDs in 2010.  In his junior year, Leftwich ran the ball 20 times for 180 yards and 3 scores.  Wesley was also an All-State punter for the Kewpies, as well as an All-District wide receiver.

DB Ernest Payton (A&M Consolidated HS, College Station, TX)
A steal from Texas A&M University, Ernest Payton brings even more depth to a defensive secondary that saw three players leave for the NFL draft.  Considered as a late addition to the class, he fought for 85 tackles and 4 interceptions in his 2010 senior season.

QB Corbin Berkstresser (Lees Summit HS, Lees Summit, MO)
Corbin Berkstresser
Another homegrown talent from the state of Missouri, Berkstresser aired it out for 3,369 yards his senior season for 36 scores, with only 6 INTs against him.  (Blaine Gabbert went for 3,186 and 16 TD, 9 INT.)  Ranked as the no. 3 player of any position in Missouri, Corbin also brings a set of legs as he ran the ball 712 yards and 12 touchdowns.  His junior year, he passed for 1,300 and 7 scores and his sophomore season he netted 1,800 yards and 10 scores.

OL Taylor Chappell (Canadian HS, Canadian, TX)
1st-team All-State in his senior year, Taylor graded at 96% at his position on the line, including not allowing a single sack in his final two years at Canadian.  A two-time state champion, Chappell is ranked as the nation's no. 53 offensive tackle prospect by rivals.com and no. 81 of any position in Texas.  Taylor was a multi-sport star at Canadian, earning All-District honors in basketball as well as a district championship in discus.

DL Shane Ray (Bishop Meige, Shawnee Mission, KS)
From the rival state of Kansas, Shane chose Mizzou over bitter rivals Kansas and Nebraska, as well as Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Kansas State.  Considered to be one of the nation's most talented defensive ends, Shane becomes a second-generation Tiger behind his father Wendell Ray, who played offensive line under Warren Powers in the 1980s.  His senior year saw him earn 100 tackles, 16 for loss, 10.5 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and a blocked punt.

DL/OL Connor McGovern (Shanley HS, Fargo, ND)
A trench man on the line, Connor helped lead his team to two consecutive North Dakota state titles in his final two years.  Won Gatorade player of the year for North Dakota his senior season, along with 1st-team All-State.  McGovern tallied 89 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries his senior season.  Played Iron Man for Shanley as he played on the offensive side of the line as well and is considered to be a talented and accomplished blocker.

Mizzou bball @Kansas Preview

TIGERS LOOK TO STARS FOR BIG GAME
Lawrence, KS- Monday marks the newest installment of the Border War- basketball style.  The 14th ranked Missouri Tigers travel to Lawrence, Kansas for battle against the 2nd ranked Kansas Jayhawks, who are better known around Mizzou Nation as "Beakers".  The Tigers are carrying an 18-5, 4-4 record into tomorrow night's game, as the Beakers are only a one-loss team on the year at 22-1.  Their one loss came to the hands of the Texas Longhorns, now third nationally.  The Tigers are hoping for a huge game from known and trusted stars Marcus Denmon, Kim English and Ricardo Ratliffe.  Breakout games from Michael Dixon, Jr, Matt and Phil Pressey, Laurence Bowers, as well as a huge game from the supporting cast of bench players would also be of great help as the Beakers boast the nation's best field goal percentage at 51.9%.  The Tigers' 46.6% comes in at 49th nationally.  The Tigers are one better than Kansas in one aspect: points per game.  The Tigers are currently averaging 83.1 points per game (7th) compared to the Beakers' 82.7 (8th).  Both teams are top-10 in assists per game, both averaging about 20 with MU averaging 17.2, which is good enough for 9th, while Kansas comes in with 18.3 for 3rd nationally.

The Tigers have just three wins in their last six games, going back to the heartbreaking two-point loss to Texas A&M in overtime.  The Beakers are riding a now four game win streak after suffering defeat to the Longhorns in Allen Fieldhouse.

The history behind this rivalry stems from an actual event during the Civil War in which Kansas senator James H. Lane invaded Missouri and destroyed the towns of Osceola, Butler, Clinton and Harrisonville, MO.  Ohio-born Missourian and Confederate sympathizer William C. Quantrill led an attack against Lawrence following the collapse of a Kansas City jail, after which Lawrence was left in ashes.  The attack became known as The Lawrence Massacre.  Quantrill's Raiders initiated their attack on August 21, 1863.

The rivalry is more known on the gridiron, more so for the first ever Homecoming (1911) and also after the 1960 controversy of Beaker Bert Coan.  The Jayhawks won that game, which spilled over to the 1961 meeting on the hardwood that became known as the "Basketbrawl".  The MU-kU Border War is the most fierce rivalry in all of college sports, due to the common border the two states share, and the hatred that runs deep in each others blood.  Many student-athletes have defected from their roots, as many Mizzou players come from Shawnee Mission, KS, and the Jayhawks get a handful of players from the Kansas City area.

The Tigers lead the rivalry on the football field, 56-54-9, but Kansas holds a commanding lead in the basketball rivalry at 169-94.

C-U-LATER!!

Tigers Send Colorado Packing
Kim English (24) led Missouri with 21 points.

Columbia, MO- The 14th-ranked University of Missouri was on the road for their last two games, and after going 0-2, including a 6-point loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a much needed win was in order.  The Tigers traveled back to Columbia to take on the Colorado Buffaloes for the final time, as the Buffs are leaving the Big 12 in favor of the PAC12 next year.  In the first meeting this year, Colorado defeated MU by a 13-pt margin, 79-66.  This time, at Mizzou Arena with a home crowd of 14,288, it was a different story.  The Tigers walked to the locker room and sent Colorado to the PAC 12 with an 89-73 victory to remain undefeated at home this season.  The Tigers are now 14-0 on Norm Stewart Court.  The Tigers improve to 18-5 overall and even up their conference record at 4-4.  Colorado drops to 15-9, 4-5 on the year.

Turnovers plagued Colorado all game as the Buffs coughed up the ball a season-worst 23 times, 15 of which were in the first half.

The Tigers were led offensively by Kim English, who sank 21 points for the Tigers.  Colorado's Alec Burks, who netted 36 in the first meeting, was held to only 21 points.  Five Tigers finished in double digits as Cardo Ratliffe added 14, Marcus Denmon netted 17, and Phil "Flip" Pressey and Michael Dixon, Jr added 13 of their own.  Steve Moore finished with 2, Matt Pressey with 3 and Laurence Bowers with 6, respectively.

The Tigers go back on the road on Monday to Allen Fieldhouse to take on their bitter rival the Kansas Jayhawks (22-1, 7-1), who are ranked second in the nation and coming off of a 86-66 victory over Nebraska.
